Lake Lure Rental: Romantic Lakeside Getaway Cottage

Cottage, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Five Oaks is a cozy one-bedroom lakeside guest cottage situated on beautiful Lake Lure. It is the perfect spot for a romantic relaxing getaway vacation for two, or for a couple with one or two small children. Lake Lure is nestled in the narrow groove of Hickory Nut Gorge just 25 miles southeast of Asheville, NC. It was named by National Geographic as one of the ten most beautiful man-made lakes in the world. Several movies, including Dirty Dancing have been filmed at Lake Lure. There is a never-ending variety of outdoor activities to be enjoyed in and around the lake, including swimming, fishing, diving, kayaking, canoeing, and hiking.

Five Oaks Cottage was built in 2005 and is tastefully decorated and equipped with a full kitchen and bath with shower. We supply linens, towels, and hygiene products for our guests and an information booklet listing local activities and attractions to help make each guest's stay both memorable and enjoyable. Guests have full access to the dock and boathouse rooftop deck for swimming, fishing, lounging, and enjoying the spectacular views of the lake, the gorge, and Chimney Rock Park. We also provide use of a canoe and a kayak so you can tour the lake and visit sites of interest such as the cove where portions of Dirty Dancing were filmed. There are also some very nice restaurants that can be reached by water.

The cottage is situated behind the main house and has lake views from most windows and from the attached deck. The boathouse and dock are about 150 feet in front of the cottage. About 15 stone steps lead down to the ground level of the main house. A stone pathway then leads you around the house. Another 15 steps will take you to the rooftop deck atop the boathouse, and another 15 steps will take you down to the dock at water level. Having to negotiate steps down to the water is the norm at Lake Lure because it is a mountain lake and the shoreline is steep. There are very few lodgings on Lake Lure that do not require the traversing of many steps to reach water level. Five Oaks Cottage actually has fewer steps to the water than many. Still, it may not be suitable for older folks or those with disabilities.

The cottage is equipped with wireless internet, a TV with satellite reception, a DVD player, a CD player with auxiliary input for your phone or mp3 player, and a large collection of CDs and DVDs. Five Oaks is the cottage where the author/owner conceived and wrote the popular series of children's books called The Lake Lure Chronicles (Google 'Lake Lure Chronicles' to view). We believe you will thoroughly enjoy your stay at Five Oaks and will create many lasting memories of this most beautiful and peaceful place.

We returned for a 2nd time to celebrate our anniversary. We had a wonderful visit last year - getting to know David and Penny (& Daisy) and falling in love with the area. This yesr’s visit had a bit more drama with the arrival of storm “Alberto”. Nothing any of us could control. The cottage was still perfect, David and Oenny were gracious hosts and Lake Lure remains magical. We highly recommend staying here.

We had a wonderful stay at Five Oaks Cottage. Dave and Penny were so nice and helpful. The cottage was furnished with everything we needed. They had a nice selection of movies including Dirty Dancing!!! The view from the deck was amazing and the fishing was pretty good too!! Thanks Dave and Penny for a great stay!!

Charming 1br cottage on lake lure. The cottage is situated up a small hill above the owners Home which is on the lake. However, you have full access to their dock and rooftop dock. We loved having a bonfire on the dock each night and use of their canoe. Very peaceful and quiet and owners were wonderful! House is perfect size for a couple.

We loved our stay! We had visited Lake Lure many times and stayed in a hotel. We chose to rent a cabin this time, because we were traveling with a 4 month old, 40 lb labradoodle, and we felt like we needed to ensure that we did not disturb any nearby vacationers. The cabin had everything we needed. There were, in fact, a few cooking items in the kitchen that I would have liked to take home with me. And everything was spotlessly clean. The dock was amazing and we all enjoyed sitting out there each evening watching the sun set. We also spent a lot of time on the water in both the provided kayak and canoe. It was amazing to see the gazebo at the park from the water We were also pleased that most of the area restaurants were dog friendly and were happy to have our baby on their patios. The Bistro, one of our favorite restaurants in Lake Lure, even had a menu for our puppy. The coffee shop next to the flower bridge has the best carrot cake ever. Larkins has not to be missed shrimp and fish platters on their waterfront patio. The pictures do not do this cabin justice. We found everything to be actually better than represented.

We are not a big fan of hotels, and wanted to try something different for our anniversary trip. For one, the pictures of this sweet cottage can not begin to do it justice. It is so roomy looking inside, and was very comfortable for the two of us for a long weekend. It was a very short drive into the town of chimney rock, and only about 25 miles to Asheville. David and Penny are more than just hosts, and part of our experience was getting to know them. David knows so much about the history of the lake, which was most interesting. They give you all the space you need to complete plans of your own, but are also very friendly, and willing to get together to talk or socialize. We enjoyed our complimentary bottle of wine on the beautiful dock along with a picnic. David writes wonderful children's books called The Lake Lure Chronicles. Copies were in the cabin, along with DVDs, etc. I enjoyed thumbing through the cookbooks Penny had in the kitchen, and can't wait to check out her cooking blog. We left with great memories and two new friends. You can't go wrong with Five Oaks Cottage.
